Ages 2–4 | Parent-Assisted Learn-to-Skate Program

Parent & Tot is an introductory skating program designed to help young children take their first steps on the ice in a fun, welcoming, and supportive environment. With a parent or guardian joining them on the ice, young skaters can build confidence, become comfortable on their skates, and begin developing fundamental skating skills at their own pace.

Through age-appropriate games, activities, and guided instruction, skaters will be introduced to basic skills such as balance, standing up after falling, marching, and moving independently on the ice. The program emphasizes fun, participation, and confidence-building, helping children develop a positive introduction to skating.

Parents play an active role in supporting and encouraging their child throughout each session. Under the guidance of our coaches, parents will help their skaters participate in activities, practise new skills, and gradually develop greater independence on the ice.

Who Is This Program For?

Parent & Tot is ideal for young children who are new to skating or who would benefit from having a familiar adult alongside them as they gain confidence on the ice. This program is especially suited for children who may not yet feel comfortable participating independently in a group lesson.

Families looking for a more independent, coach-led skating experience may wish to consider our PreCanSkate program.

Parent/Guardian Requirements & Registration

• The accompanying parent or guardian must be between 18 and 65 years old.

• Parents must meet the minimum skating requirements outlined on our website to safely assist their child on the ice.

• Parents must add "Parent Registration – Parent/Tot" when registering their child to be permitted on the ice.

• Parents are only required to register as Skate Canada members, which involves a one-time membership fee for insurance purposes. There is no additional Parent & Tot program fee for the accompanying parent.

Please Note: Parent participation is required for this program. All accompanying parents must complete their Skate Canada membership registration before joining their child on the ice.
