Volunteer Policy

At Figure 8 Skating Club (F8SC), we believe in the power of community. As a non-profit organization, we rely on the time and talents of dedicated volunteers to create a positive and successful environment for our skaters. The club is guided by a volunteer Board of Directors, and our continued success depends on the contributions of our members.

Volunteer Requirements

  • PreStar & StarSkate Participants: Required to complete 12 volunteer credits per skating season (September–June).
  • Adult Learn to Figure Skate Participants: Required to complete 6 volunteer credits per season (September–June).
  • Learn to Skate Programs (PreCanSkate & CanSkate): No formal volunteer requirement, but families are encouraged to support F8SC fundraising efforts and participate in our biennial casino fundraiser.

Note: The volunteer requirement is per family, not per skater. Families with multiple skaters only need to fulfill the total required credits once.

Volunteer Deposit & Opt-Out Option

Beginning with the 2025–2026 skating season, F8SC will require a $150 volunteer deposit at the time of registration.

  • The deposit will be refunded upon completion of the volunteer commitment.
  •  Members may sign up for volunteer roles during registration. You can browse the volunteer roles here.
  • Families who choose to opt out of volunteering may do so by selecting the $300 opt-out option at registration.

Thank You!

We deeply appreciate the generosity and spirit of all our volunteers. Your support makes it possible to deliver high-quality programming and maintain a strong, inclusive skating community. Thank you for helping F8SC thrive!

Casino Fundraiser

F8SC hosts a casino every 2–3 years, with the most recent one held in January 2025. This event is our primary source of fundraising, and the money raised is vital to keeping our programming affordable and accessible for all skaters. Casino funds help cover major expenses like ice rentals and program costs, allowing skaters of all ages to experience the joy of skating without financial strain.

To make this event a success, we rely on our skating community. When a casino is scheduled, we ask all PreSTAR, Adult Figure Skate, and STARSkate members to sign up for a volunteer shift. A full roster of volunteers ensures we meet our fundraising goals—and continue offering high-quality programming that everyone can enjoy.

Volunteering at the casino is more than just lending a hand—it's helping build a vibrant skating community where passion and opportunity glide hand in hand.
